Greetings everyone!
I hope you all had a relaxing weekend as we have a busy week ahead of us. This week we will have our second round of map testing. Tests will take place on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. Please make sure your child is well rested with extra healthy breakfasts on those days to maximize energy and brain power! On Tuesday we will also be finishing our Jeoparbee. We only managed to complete one round last week, so we have two more to go! I will be giving jeoparbee prep for homework on Monday. On Thursday, as I'm sure you know, we will be hosting one of my favorite activities of the year, Library Day! Please be in attendance as it is important that we demonstrate our love and commitment to books and reading. I leave you today with two images: a comic strip on the conundrums of teaching, as well as a favorite quote of Piaget, the cognitive psychologist whom inspires many who teach today. Have a great week!

Grade 4,
I am so proud of you all. You did an amazing job preparing for and handling the Grade 4 store. Of course, we owe much to your parents for their amazing support. Everything went perfectly. We raised a great donation for the animal shelter. Once we finalize the details and arrange our visit, we will announce it here. Well done, team! Please see the photos in our photo section. Next week, we will be having our first Jeobarbee of the year. The game will be played with each table group competing for the top table. The words will be taken from Wordly Wise Lessons 1 - 8, our word sorts,

Again, students wear formal uniform - khakies, cardigan, and white polo. Parent's please attend! Grade 4 have worked very hard to manage the winter concert under Ms. Fitz's direction. Wednesday and Thursday will be regular school days, busy finishing Term 2 tasks and getting ready for the Winter Break. Friday we will have the Candle Lighting Ceremony. That will be a half day. Students arrive at the same time. We will enjoy our house breakfast and then attend the ceremony. Please make sure your child is dressed again in the formal uniform. Dismissal will be at 11:20. The bus will leave at 11:30. Let's have a great final school week of 2016! Mr. Baker Greetings parents and students,
On Monday we will have a math test. We have been working on the following concepts: 1) Multiples and factors 2) Addition and Subtraction number stories 3) Multiplication facts 4) Division Facts 5)) Using a Map Scale 6) Open senteces 7) Parentheses I am confident in our students to succeed as long as they take time to check and recheck their work. We have reviewed the topics in class and through homework. I have also given them a pre-test putting emphasis on checking our work. Please review their homwwork packet that I have sent home. I am also signing students up for XtraMath.org. There we will have more time to practice our math. I am sending home a letter to explain and show you how to enroll. In other areas: In Writing we are working on persuasive essays as students have chosen their own topics and are willing to support their thesis. In Reading, we have started a research project which will take us to the end of the term. Table groups have chosen a type of extreme weather to explore and gain a better understanding of. In Social Studies, we are narrowing our focus for our one-day-store. We have changed to date to the first or second week after we return in January in order to better plan the event and allow us to clarify details with our donation. In Science we have just about completed our unit on forces as we have a few more students to finish off their ramp race project. Students have been practicing the Energy unit vocaublary which will begin early next week. Have a great weekend! Hello everyone! We have had a busy half-week here in 4th Grade, working on our personal essays, reviewing and practicing number stories, as well as working towards our Social Studies Term project - the school store. Students have also been given a science assignment - to build a ramp in order to have a ramp race. Students are still constructing the ramp and we will have our experiment after the break. For homework I have two main pieces. First, students must complete a summary of a non-fiction book they have read. They have taken home the texts in a baggie as well as an additional notebook to complete the assignment. They should be fully prepared to complete this assignment. They may ask for your assistance in the revising stage. This is when they would peer-edit, meaning that a classmate would read what they have so far, asking questions, and giving constructing comments. Please do no over-help. It is only during this stage that you would give suggestions. Do not focus on grammar and sentence structure as much as on clarity and sticking to the main idea and supporting sentences. I have included a video below to help clarify for both student and parent. I have also put together a new vocabulary set on quizlet. Students can access the set through google classroom again. These words will support the rest of our science for Term 2. Please allow computer access for at least 30 minutes per day working on quizlet. Enjoy the break, and thank you for the constant support! Mr. Baker See below for your child's Lab for the Winter Season. This Lab season will run from November 16 - March 8.
Well, Spirit Week is over - What a great time we had. Grade 4 certainly showed their spirit. Thank you parents for all of your support in picking up clothes and costumes for the week. Please check out the photos tab for Spirit Week pics. This week we have been being busy starting our writing unit on opinion writing, as well as our reading unit on nonfiction reading. Students have been busy selecting and reading a variety of nonfiction texts as we explore different ways to connect to and understand a variety of topics. In Social Studies we have been finishing our study of money. Through Science we have been introduced to a new study tool - Quizlet. Please look forward to more vocabulary practice in both Science and Math using this tool. Feedback will be appreciated. Speaking of Math, this week we have been working on multiplication/division math facts. I have also added another tab to our weebly as a place for math tutorial. I hope it is helpful! Next week, we will have another busy one. On Wednesday, we will be visiting Incheon Grand Park. Please see the plan below. Dress warmly. On Thursday and Friday we will have the opportunity to visit and purchase books at the Book Fair. On Thursday, students will have time to choose books and make a list of books they are interested in. They will bring the list to you Thursday afternoon and hopefully get permission and money from you to buy books on Friday! :) |
