I have offered some extra days in case Friday fills up. Please remember that if you are booking on a day other than Friday, you will not be able to see the specials as well on those days. I recommend you visit as many of your child's teachers as you can! See you next week! Mr. Baker Hello everyone!
A few words for Friday. We have a math test this coming Tuesday. Students will be expected to be able to: Read and Write Large Numbers Add Multiple digit numbers Subtract multidigit numbers Make ballpark estimates for addition and subtraction problems Create and Read a bar graph Find the minimum, maximum, range, median, and mode of a data set. I have posted some videos below to help prepare students with some good review. I also recommend they review their homework and worksheets that I am sending home. PLEASE RETURN THESE ON TUESDAY!! Students will also be presenting their water filters on Tuesday, so expect that some will be scrambling to be ready. Please let them scramble on their own! :) See you next week! Dear students and parents,
Today I have released their science projects. They have one week to complete the science project, due next Tuesday during 6th block. For the project I am expecting a completed homemade water filter. Students must work together to divide up tasks among students in their groups. They may collect materials outside of the classroom, but they must not be purchased parts of an actual water filter. Building and testing the filter must take place during class time - we have science on Thursday and Friday this week. Students in their groups must also document their production by taking pictures and or videos. They must also complete a rough draft and final copy of the Engineering Design Process which has been handed out. Only one rough draft and one final copy of the worksheet is required per group. Students must also fill out a who-did-what form and label of their personal work that is submitted to the group. The main goals of this project are: 1) To learn about the importance of water filters to communities in clean water. 2) To learn the science behind a water filter. 3) To show cooperation in completing the project as a group and in a timely fashion. Please allow students the freedom to plan and complete this project without family help. Cheers! Mr. Baker Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Weekly Update Wednesdays!
Today we had the wonderful opportunity to pick some sweet potatoes. Please visit the Photos Tab above for photos. Each student picked a bunch of potatoes and were able to take one home. Enjoy! As you know, on Friday we will have our Jog-a-thon, during which students will be running to raise money for a yet-to-be-determined charity. Grade 4 will be discussing and choosing where the money will be going when we see how much we raise. The form went home yesterday, so please make sure to fill it out with your child. The money raised can be sent in with the form next week. Those donating may choose to pledge a certain amount per lap, or a lump amount. On that day, students will be dismissed at 1:20 - that is just after lunch! There will be no ASP for swimming on that day either. So please be here by 1:20 if you are picking up your kids! I would also like to take this time to thank you all for your wonderful participation during Fall Fest. I hope all parents and siblings had as much fun as students and teachers. Go CDS!! Academically, we are continuing with our current units as we wind down the term. We will have a Math test at the end of next week. We will also be writing our stories. Please encourage your child(ren) to read carefully each night and enjoy their books! Finally, students will be presented with a project for Science. They will be building their own water filters. This is a group project and students will need to gather materials from home. Please assist students in getting the materials, but do not give advice or help in research. Thank you for your continued support. Enjoy the rest of your week! Mr. Baker |
