Hello everyone! We have had a busy half-week here in 4th Grade, working on our personal essays, reviewing and practicing number stories, as well as working towards our Social Studies Term project - the school store. Students have also been given a science assignment - to build a ramp in order to have a ramp race. Students are still constructing the ramp and we will have our experiment after the break. For homework I have two main pieces. First, students must complete a summary of a non-fiction book they have read. They have taken home the texts in a baggie as well as an additional notebook to complete the assignment. They should be fully prepared to complete this assignment. They may ask for your assistance in the revising stage. This is when they would peer-edit, meaning that a classmate would read what they have so far, asking questions, and giving constructing comments. Please do no over-help. It is only during this stage that you would give suggestions. Do not focus on grammar and sentence structure as much as on clarity and sticking to the main idea and supporting sentences. I have included a video below to help clarify for both student and parent. I have also put together a new vocabulary set on quizlet. Students can access the set through google classroom again. These words will support the rest of our science for Term 2. Please allow computer access for at least 30 minutes per day working on quizlet. Enjoy the break, and thank you for the constant support! Mr. Baker

Well, Spirit Week is over - What a great time we had. Grade 4 certainly showed their spirit. Thank you parents for all of your support in picking up clothes and costumes for the week. Please check out the photos tab for Spirit Week pics. This week we have been being busy starting our writing unit on opinion writing, as well as our reading unit on nonfiction reading. Students have been busy selecting and reading a variety of nonfiction texts as we explore different ways to connect to and understand a variety of topics. In Social Studies we have been finishing our study of money. Through Science we have been introduced to a new study tool - Quizlet. Please look forward to more vocabulary practice in both Science and Math using this tool. Feedback will be appreciated. Speaking of Math, this week we have been working on multiplication/division math facts. I have also added another tab to our weebly as a place for math tutorial. I hope it is helpful! Next week, we will have another busy one. On Wednesday, we will be visiting Incheon Grand Park. Please see the plan below. Dress warmly. On Thursday and Friday we will have the opportunity to visit and purchase books at the Book Fair. On Thursday, students will have time to choose books and make a list of books they are interested in. They will bring the list to you Thursday afternoon and hopefully get permission and money from you to buy books on Friday! :) |
