My apologies parents, it seems my updating has not been weekly as plan. I will do my best to keep up with the weekly schedule. I am thankful for your patience. Over the past few weeks we have accomplished much. In Math we have been looking at place value as well as collecting and sorting data. In the coming weeks to finish off the term, we will continue with data, reviewing the median, mode, and displaying data in graphs. We will also look at different methods of multi-digit addition including addition number stories. We will have another assessment in about two weeks. I will post the date here on the site. In Science we have been finishing our units on properties of matter with work on the periodic table. Students have enjoyed the video posted below. In the coming weeks we will work on changes in matter, both physical and chemical. In Social Studies we have continued to investigate economics by looking at how business works based on supply and demand as well as where as resources come from. This week we have looked at importing and exporting. As the Term comes to an end we will be culminating in how a free market economy works.
In our Reading unit, picking up again now that MAP testing and Chuseok are finished, we continue to read through The Tiger Rising, discussing reading strategies as we go. We have been comparing the story of Rob dealing with the death of his mother in The Tiger Rising, with that of Bastion, the main character of the movie The Neverending Story who is dealing with the same life. For Writing, we are getting closer and closer to writing our final product. Students are writing small moments, building theme, and developing characters. We have some great stories and can't wait to show them off! We have recently set up our SeeSaw accounts and I will let you know when we place our first product. This Friday is uniform free Friday and we will also celebrate Lena's birthday. Have a great week! Mr. Baker Hello everyone, we have had an eventful week. In Reading we have been thinking of and demonstrating strategies to become stronger readers as well as dive into our mentor text, The Tiger Rising, which has been providing a fair bit of excitement for our students. In Writing, we have been making lists of story ideas and books we would like to read, as well as begin to build our characters. In Science we have been discussing and demonstrating ways to measure matter. In Social Studies we have been discussing needs and wants. In Math we have summed up our first unit and will have out first assessment on Monday. To help students prepare I am sending home their completed and corrected work for review. Below is a list of areas that will be covered on the test as well as some videos to help iron out any confusion. 1. Know addition and subtraction fact extensions. 2. Identify, draw, and label line segments, lines, and rays. 3. Identify and draw parallel and intersecting line segments. 4. Describing sides and angles of polygons. 5. Use a compass and straightedge to construct geometric figures. Please return the completed work folders for filing. Thank you!
